What is biodegradable glitter made of?
Most genuine biodegradable glitter starts with regenerated plant cellulose. For Glitter Eco Lovers' certified Bioglitter™, that cellulose is derived primarily from eucalyptus and formed into a thin film. Cosmetic-grade pigments and a reflective layer create the colour and shine before the film is cut into glitter particles.
The essential difference is the core: conventional glitter normally uses PET or PVC plastic, while certified Bioglitter™ replaces that plastic core with plant cellulose.

How does biodegradable glitter break down?
Biodegradation is a biological process, not instant dissolving. In suitable natural conditions, microorganisms can metabolize the plant-cellulose material. Soil usually provides the most favourable combination of moisture, warmth, oxygen, and microbial activity.

Is glitter bad for the environment?
Conventional glitter is usually a primary microplastic: it is manufactured as tiny plastic particles that do not readily biodegrade. Cellulose-based biodegradable glitter reduces that problem by replacing the persistent plastic core with plant-based material, but "biodegradable" does not mean "disappears instantly anywhere."
