OUR BEGINNING

A festival side project with a bigger purpose

Why should glamour come at the cost of our planet?

I'm Charlotte Bakke, founder of Glitter Eco Lovers. Before this became a clean beauty brand, I worked full-time in an administrative role and spent my summers running a small Glam Station at music festivals. It was pure joy: glitter, creativity, live music and people expressing themselves.

Then, in 2018, I read a New York Times article about what plastic glitter contains, the environmental harm it can cause and where those tiny particles can end up. It was a genuine wake-up call. I loved everything glitter represented, but I could no longer ignore what conventional glitter left behind.

So I used my personal savings to look for a better way. Night after night, after my six-year-old had gone to bed, I sat at the kitchen table sourcing materials, mixing blends and testing a more environmentally responsible cosmetic glitter for the coming festival season.

What began as curiosity became product development. Festival-goers responded immediately. The online shop followed, then enquiries from retailers. A small summer project was becoming something much bigger than I had imagined.

What started at my kitchen table has taken me much further than I ever expected. There have been plenty of lessons, challenges and changes along the way, but one thing has stayed the same: the belief that we shouldn’t have to choose between the products we love and the planet we live on.

And in many ways, I still feel like we’re only getting started.

FROM IDEA TO IMPACT

The Glitter Eco Lovers story

It started with curiosity and a goal to find sparkly festival makeup without harmful ingredients. As I learned more about microplastics and their impact on the environment, curiosity turned into knowledge, and eventually into a desire to do things differently. What began as a small festival side hustle slowly grew into something much bigger that I could not turn away from.

2018

⟢ When glitter became more than just fun

Charlotte learned about the environmental impact of plastic glitter and began looking for a better alternative — without losing the joy and creativity that made glitter special in the first place.

⟢ Experiments at the kitchen table

After her six-year-old had gone to bed, Charlotte spent evenings sourcing materials, mixing blends and testing more environmentally responsible cosmetic glitter for her summer festival Glam Station.

2021

⟢ Glitter Eco Lovers becomes a brand

What began as a festival side hustle gradually grew into something more. After increasing interest from customers and retailers, Glitter Eco Lovers was officially established with a clear ambition: to make sparkle more responsible.

2022 → today

⟢ From a small idea to a growing clean beauty brand

Glitter Eco Lovers grew from festivals into retail, e-commerce and new markets, with products sold through more than 150 physical stores and Nordic online retailers. Today, the journey continues with the same idea at its core: creating products that bring together creativity, performance and a more responsible approach to beauty.

OUR MISSION TODAY

“Curiosity started it. Community grew it. A love of sparkle still powers it.”

The story is still being written

The beauty industry still relies heavily on conventional plastic glitter. Glitter Eco Lovers exists to help change that, one product, partnership and glitter-covered celebration at a time.

We create for people who love beauty, creativity and self-expression, but want better choices. And we work with retailers, partners and event clients who want to make more responsible sparkle part of what they offer.

What began at a kitchen table in 2018 has grown into something much bigger. But the idea behind it hasn’t changed: glamour shouldn’t have to come at the cost of our planet ♡

There's always a reason to shine.

Whatever the moment, make it sparkle ⟢
