The Glitter Eco Lovers Story | From Kitchen Table to Brand

It started at my kitchen table – long before Glitter Eco Lovers became a beauty brand known for biodegradable glitter and sustainable glamour. I’ve always loved festivals, color, and music, but in 2018, one article changed everything – and turned sparkle into a mission for plastic-free beauty.

While working at festivals during summers as a side hussle, I began styling guests with glitter makeup. Inspired by Coachella and other music festivals around the world, I wanted to share that same fun with glitter & glam with norwegians. Then I read a New York Times piece explaining how glitter is microplastic and a major ocean-pollutant. That realization changed everything.

Styling people with plastic glitter was not an option for me, but I didn’t want to give up on my business idea either. Determined to find a solution, I spent weeks researching to find a sparkly substitute, and I found it! Soon after, I began spending my evenings testing, mixing and making products of plant-based glitter at my kitchen table, after my five-year-old had fallen asleep. When I finally launched at Stavernfestivalen, I was nervous but hopeful. The response was overwhelming – people loved it!

That summer, I ran Glam Stations at several festivals, and it made me realize this was bigger than glitter – it was about redefining glam beauty. I decided to start developing my own plastic-free products that could be sold online – products that would be:

• plastic-free from formula to packaging

• vegan and cruelty-free

• chemical-free and safe for both skin and planet

There was so much to learn; I had never worked in the cosmetics industry before. Developing cosmetic products turned out to be far from easy – it was time-consuming and especially challenging as a single mother working full-time.

Every evening, after putting my little one to bed, I sat down to learn, test and develop. The beauty industry still relies heavily on plastic and synthetic ingredients, but Glitter Eco Lovers was born as a response to the pollution caused by conventional cosmetics. It was founded on the belief that glamour can be clean, green, AND gorgeous.

What started at my kitchen table has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined. Seeing our products on shelves across Scandinavia — and now being shipped all over the world — still feels a bit unreal. But what makes me proudest is knowing that every jar, every sparkle, is part of a cleaner, more responsible kind of beauty. For me, this is what true glamour is about — feeling good, doing good, and shining without leaving a trace.
