Glitter Eco Lovers is a certified dealer of Bioglitter™ and we only use Bioglitter in our specially designed glitter blends. 

Our glitter is primarily produced from the cellulose of eucalyptus trees. This means that the glitter is plant-based and degradable. The eucalyptus trees are planted and harvested according to organic standards.

How does the glitter break down?

Heat, water and oxygen are required for effective biological breakdown by micro-organisms. Bioglitter is metabolized by microorganisms that transform it into carbon dioxide, water and biomass.

How fast does this process go?

When water, heat and microorganisms are present, the rate becomes faster. The best place for it is in soil as all the ingredients are present. You can expect the glitter to normally disappear within 90 days in this environment.

Responsibility

We believe that all businesses have a social responsibility to limit their impact on the environment and protect nature against environmentally harmful interventions.

We feel committed to promoting awareness of environmental issues and pollution of the oceans, and especially against microplastics such as synthetic (plastic) glitter. There are enormous amounts of glitter in the world, tons of plastic glitter are actually produced every year, and this glitter often disappears into the sea. There it either sinks to the bottom, or small fish eat the glittering bits of plastic.

We offer a glitter that is primarily produced from organic eucalyptus trees. Our cosmetic products are made from bioglitter which is made from the cellulose of wood pulp. This means that you buy products that are vegan, have not been tested on animals and break down naturally in nature.

As glitter glue, we use natural Aloe Vera gel. Our product Aloe Vera Gelly is organic and not diluted, which makes it thick and tough and excellent to use as a “glue”. This product is also vegan, not tested on animals.

All our packaging is PLASTIC-FREE, which is very unusual in the cosmetics industry.

ANIMAL WELFARE

You will never find products in our range that have been tested on animals. Innocent animals should not have to suffer because humans need beauty products.

Why bioglitter?

Bioglitter®, is an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic-based glitter and has been developed to tackle microplastic pollution created by ordinary glitter.

How are bioglitters made?

Bioglitter® replaces the polyester film used in traditional glitter with a unique and special form of cellulose from wood. Mainly eucalyptus obtained from serious enterprises of certified plantations operated according to the PEFC ™ www.pefc.org standard.

Is the glitter 100% degradable?

As of today, 92% of the plastic content has been removed in  Sparkle  bioglitter, which is the glitter we use in our cosmetic products. The glitter has an extremely thin outer layer of aluminum which gives the nice shine, and represents less than 0.1% of the weight of the glitter.

Aluminum is a natural metallic element and therefore does not break down in nature. Aluminum is not toxic.

PURE  is 100% plant-based and degradable. This does not contain aluminum and has a mother-of-pearl shimmer. We sell PURE glitter in our online store in small bio bags.

The core of bioglitter is made of cellulose from wood and then mainly eucalyptus obtained from certified plantations that are operated according to the PEFC ™ www.pefc.org standards.

Why is this so important to us?

The world is facing a huge problem with plastic pollution and glitter has played its own small role. Tons of glitter are produced every year, and less than 1% is bio-glitter. Plastic glitter is defined as microplastic and takes many hundreds of years to break down, and we can only imagine how much lies at the bottom of the sea.

Does the glitter break down anywhere?

No, Bioglitter® does not break down without microorganisms found in the natural environment. Therefore, the glitter will not break down in your container as long as nothing organic is added with the glitter.

No microbes = no biodegradation.

Is the glitter tested on animals?

No, absolutely none of the components in our glitter have been tested on animals. In fact, none of our products are tested on animals at all.

Is bioglitter vegan?

Bioglitter® SPARKLE is the glitter we use in all our cosmetic products, and these are vegan.

Bioglitter® PURE is suitable for vegetarians and contains shellac.

Is ecoglitter tested according to the EU's cosmetic standard?

Yes. The manufacturer Bioglitter® has this information on its page:

In addition, Glitter Eco Lovers is registered in the CPNP register.

Is there antimony in the glitter?

No, there is no antimony in the glitter.

Can EcoGlitter be eaten?

NO, absolutely not. Although it is 90% plant-based, it can NOT be eaten.
