OUR STORY

Officially, Glitter Eco Lovers was founded by Charlotte Bakke in 2021. But it all started back in 2018.

By chance, Charlotte read an article in The New York Times about plastic glitter, what it contains, how environmentally harmful it is, and where the glitter ends up eventually. This came as a shock, and this article was the trigger for what is today the Glitter Eco Lovers brand.

Charlotte used all her savings to purchase raw materials and ingredients to create an environmentally friendly cosmetic glitter product for use at Norwegian festivals in the summer of 2018. Night after night she sat at her kitchen table developing products and making blends,.after her 6-year-old son had gone to bed. 

The glitter products were a great success at the music festivals. High demand from glitter lovers led her to eventually open an online store, and Norwegian retail owners contacted her to retail her sparkly products in their stores aswell.

What began as a side hustle quickly grew into a serious business. The company Eco Lovers AS was established in 2021, and today you can find our products in over 150 physical stores and in 10 Nordic online stores, spread across the Nordic countries.

Still, over 99% of today’s glitter is made of plastic, and the cosmetics industry contributes significantly to this pollution, not to mention all the plastic packaging that follows with it,  that destroys our planet.

We continue to develop sparkly party products with the same vision as in 2018:

Glitter Eco Lovers will provide all glitter lovers with sustainable and plastic-free alternatives to sparkly cosmetics and party products that are safe for the planet, people, and wildlife.
