ABOUT US

THE HISTORY

For years I have loved music festivals, so much that I even set up my own booth at a couple of festivals back in 2016. Then in 2018, I decided to offer glitter styling to my customers, inspired by the Coachella festival. While waiting for glitter samples from a manufacturer I read this article in the New York Times that glitter is micro-plastics and is a huge environmental problem. To be honest, this came as a bit of a shock! I got a bit of a shock! I had never really thougt about what glitter was made of and where it would end up after use.

After weeks of research trying to find a sparkly product that was not a menace to the environment , I found a manufacturer of a glitter made from plants! I loved it! However, the manufacturer would only sell raw materials in bulk, so I had to make a decition. Should I really go to the trouble of starting manufacturing my own cosmetic products? I know nothing about this industry, and I already had a fulltime job. AND I was a single parent.

But I did it. I had to! I was not about to spread plastic glitter around festivals knowing what I knew about plastic glitter. So I used all my savings to be able to buy the minimum of a bulk order of bioglitter and packaging. Then I sat night after night after my son had gone to bed making glitter blends and testing until I was satisfied with my sparkly products.

The glitter was a super hit at the festivals that summer, and it turned out that many people wanted to know where they could purchase these products. That meant I had to come up with a cool brand name, get a logo made, hire a graphic designer, find suitable packaging and make labels. This was turning into a lot more work that I had anticipated. But you know what? I absolutely loved it! And this is the story how the brand Glitter Eco Lovers was born.

I did all the work myself for a long, long time. This business was literally a kitchen table business, and during busy periods I had to get help from my mother to pack goods in the evenings and at weekends.

Getting Glitter Eco Lovers today has been hard work, but never have a had a jobb that gives me so much joy and pride.

Still over 99% of today’s glitter is made of plastic, and this extremely frustrating fact only makes me even more set on keep growing Glitter Eco Lovers globally. We need to swap plastic for plant-based, for us humans, for our children, for the planet and for all wonderfull wildlife on earth.
